WELCOME BASKET MINISTRY:
Basket Makers:
Once a month (if needed) our Basket Makers gather in the Community Room and make up about 50 Welcome Baskets to take to our new neighbors. The baskets have a variety of things in them such as; small packages of coffee and tea (non-perishables), an area map, C.L.C. brochures, a current calendar reflecting all outreach events, a CD of praise and worship music, a Gospel Track, and a “Free Ticket for Cookies.” The baskets are wrapped in plastic wrap or a plastic bag and tied with ribbon. They are very nicely done.
Reminder cards are sent out before a basket making day by our Coordinator, and the Assistant Coordinator keeps track of the inventory to make sure we have all our supplies.
House Detectives:
A House Detective keeps track of new homes and bring us maps to show when the homes become occupied. He or she is given large legends of the layout and only need to drive through once a month and mark the new move-ins. (Of course, this is on hold until the market picks up.)
Basket Takers:
The baskets are picked up anytime between Thursday evening and Sunday after church. Normally, they are in the Community Room, but if not; they are in the storage room off the Community Room. A map, or legend, with directions and the Basket Taker’s name is put in their mailbox before Sunday. The maps are returned after delivery; and all the addresses are recorded in the computer.
All phases of this basket ministry includes prayer. We pray over the baskets when we make them, and ask the Takers to pray over them when they are delivered.
As a follow-up, we send out Christmas Cards to the homes baskets were delivered during the year. They will include an invitation to our Christmas Services…the greatest time for visitation of non-church people.
NOTE: All C.L.C. Family are reminded (in the announcement slides) that ANYTIME a new neighbor moves in near you; please take them a Welcome Basket.
