Worship Contacts

“WORSHIP CONTACTS”     Ministry Description

I.                    Please don’t let the call just be a “reminder” of a job they “have to do”. Remember that you are helping Pastor Dave with preventive pastoral care and letting people know they are needed, wanted and loved. Please remember: You may be reminding a very new member. Please try to be as helpful and possible so they can serve without hesitation and fear, but with joy.

II.                 Suggest that this is an opportunity and privilege to serve God as well as his/her fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Ask how they are doing; let them know you’re glad to be serving with them in that particular week and look forward to seeing them in church.

III.               If the person cannot serve in an assigned area, suggest that they trade weeks with someone else, and then let you know who they traded with. If they indicate they have not gotten a replacement, or would have difficulty getting one, please offer your assistance in contacting the ministry replacement person for that particular service area, by giving them the name and phone number of the coordinator. You have a copy of the replacement contact list.

IV.              If you get a recorded message, please don’t just leave a message and assume they will serve as assigned. They may be out of town and never get the message. Ask them to call you back to verify that they will or will not be there. Be sure to leave your phone number and a time to call you back.

V.                 Out of common courtesy, we ask that calls are not made before 9:00 a.m. or after 9:00 p.m. If you are scheduled for Wednesday calls, we ask that you start them no sooner than the Sunday before that Wednesday’s service. And, if you are scheduled to Sunday calls, we ask that you call no sooner that the Wednesday before that Sunday service. The reason for this is that, if people are called too soon, they may forget.

VI.              Be prepared to answer any questions about assignments, direct them to the ministry coordinator in that area, or call the church office. Be sure to reassure them that there will be people on hand to answer their questions and assist them with their ministry areas.   If you have any questions, call Barb Gohn in the church office (734-782-0563).

VII.            The last link of the communication is to let the Pastoral Aide and the House Manager know about any changes or possible gaps in each service area. It is very, very important that they have all of this information as soon as possible so that last-minute alternates can be avoided and the worship service will flow smoothly.

VIII.         The House Manager is responsible for preparing God’s house for worship. He or she must do all they can to meet the needs of the worshiper to make them as comfortable as possible, allowing them to worship in a distraction-free environment. He/she assists the Pastor and Pastoral Aide with any special needs. The main job is to make sure worship runs smoothly. There will be a coordinator listed on your replacement contact sheet if anyone should need to contact them with any questions.

IX.               If you, as a Worship Contact, cannot make your assigned calls because of vacation of some other reason, please switch weeks with another worship contact and let the church office know.

X.                 All people listed on the nursery team need to be called. Only the team captain (see *) of the Counting team needs to be called and this is done by the 8:30 a.m. Worship Contact only.

Working Together for Exciting Worship is one of our most visible looks at the Body of Christ in action. All of us should feel extremely proud to serve and we should communicate that pride to those we contact.

We never know when someone will meet Jesus for the first time or be convinced and convicted of a spiritual truth. Your efforts contribute to that happening - THAT is a privilege!
