Funeral Meals
Here at Community, we want every visitor to know how much they are loved by our Lord, Jesus. Therefore, we go the extra mile (or ten) to make them comfortable and feel totally welcome wherever they are on our campus.
Funerals are time when people are hurting and very open to the love and care of others. That makes our Funeral Meal Ministry very important. A wonderful hot meal where there is lots of good food and a congenial atmosphere can really make a difference to someone who needs a lift.
There are several ways to serve as a Funeral Meal Minister
Funeral Meal Caller:
Callers each have a portion of the alphabet and call those members to bring a specific type of dish for the meal. They are provided with lists of names and lists of food needed for each group of guests, which they use consistently unless changes are made. Phyllis Rollins calls the callers when a funeral meal is imminent.
Funeral Meal Server:
The servers setup the food on the buffet tables in the dishes provided or dishes in our kitchen, and refill dishes as needed. Sometimes they also heat or reheat food.
Funeral Meal Cleanup:
The cleanup crew packs the leftover food in containers for the family, washes the dishes and puts in cupboard or on the counter. They repack the centerpieces, wipe off and dry the table covers and pack them away. The tables are returned to their normal positions, but often don’t need to be moved. The floor is also vacuumed and the kitchen floor swept; lightly mopped if necessary.
Other than these specific areas, all members of CLC are called to bring dishes for our Funeral Meals.
