Creative Arts Vocal Music

Creative Arts - Vocal Music

Ministry Description

Music gives a movement and emotional charge to the words of scripture. It can help the worshiper further understand and feel the Word in a new dimension. It can elevate our Worship to a true spiritual experience. Vocal musicians help lead the congregation into worship and bring them closer to God through singing and music. A vocal musician must have a worshipful attitude and be willing to serve the Lord with excellence in their preparation and presentation.

Serving Opportunities

»      Unity - An adult SATB choir that leads worship during regularly scheduled services as special music, during special festival worship services, and services completely designed around music. There is no special musical ability or experience necessary to be involved. Rehearsals are designed to teach music theory in addition to practicing specific musical selections. Unity meets on Tuesday evenings from 7:00—8:30 p.m. Check the church calendar for rehearsal dates.

»      Impact - A creative arts education program for children in preschool through the 6th grade. They experiment with numerous ways to use the arts in worship including presenting at least one major performance for worship. Please see the impact sheet for more information.

»      Unashamed - Made up of youth vocalists and instrumentalists to lead youth worship and present special music in services.

»      Song Leaders - Lead the congregation in singing worship songs during service. They are responsible for learning all of the worship music ahead of time as well as being familiar with the flow of the service. They are expected to present themselves in a professional manner at all times. Song leaders are recruited from Unity and are traditionally scheduled two months in advance.

»      Praise Teams - Vocalists chosen from Unity who serve as lead worshippers. Groups are comprised of lead, alto and tenor voices in different combinations. They work on personal growth in worship as well as team leading techniques. The team commits to extra rehearsals and works on different singing techniques in addition to speaking, praying and transitioning during worship.

»      Solo/Ensemble - Members of the choir will often be asked to enhance our worship through special music. As the worship staff plans services, they will pick special pieces to be presented and then ask soloists or small groups to sing them. There is no rotating schedule for soloists; they are chosen based on whose voice would best fit a song.
