Creative Arts - Instrumental Music
Ministry Description
Music gives a movement and emotional charge to Worship. It can help the worshiper further understand and feel the worship songs in a new dimension. It can elevate our Worship to a true spiritual experience. Instrumental musicians help lead the congregation into worship and bring them closer to God through playing their instrument. An instrumental musician must have a worshipful attitude and be willing to serve the Lord with excellence in their preparation and presentation.
Serving Opportunities
» Praise Band - Leads all worship music and occasionally accompanies special music. Made up of a traditional rhythm section including keys, guitars, bass, drums and percussion. We often add horns for large services or for improvisational solos while leading the congregational singing. In most cases, individuals playing with the praise band will need to audition or play for a trial period before being added on a regular basis.
» Solo/Ensemble - Players of any instrument are encouraged to share their gifts with the congregation in an act of worship. Anyone in the seventh grade or older who has a mastery of their instrument is welcome to play a song that is Christian or Classical in nature. In most cases soloists and ensembles will work with a staff member before presenting the selection for Worship. Instrumentalists are considered worship leaders and must always strive for excellence. Many circumstances have to be considered such as age, attitude and degree of development on their instrument.
» Orchestra - On special occasions, usually to accompany a large musical, a full orchestra will be formed. Members of the congregation who are advanced in their playing and are able to meet the technical requirements of the music are encouraged to play. They will be joined by other members of the community along with some hired musicians, as needed. Please inform a staff member of the instruments you play so that we can call on you when needed.
» Handbells - The three-octaves of handbells are rarely used anymore, but they would love to ring when there are enough individuals willing to play them. Past musical experience is not necessary. The ability to count, know your right from your left hand, and be able to distinguish red from blue are prerequisites. This allows people of many ages and musical abilities to take part.
