Creative Arts - Technical

Ministry Description

This area handles the technical support for all church services and special events. Those who serve in this ministry have a heart to work behind the scenes, knowing that their efforts have made some aspect of the production operate more efficiently. Technicians must have a worshipful attitude and be willing to serve the Lord with excellence with their preparation and part in the presentation.

Serving Opportunities

»      Producer/Technical Director - This person is in charge of the content and flow of the worship service, program, event or video shoot. They make sure that all the details of the project and everyone involved it come together. Sometimes this position is broken up into two depending on how many other technicians and arts are involved in the program. Many times the Technical Director will take on design roles as well as doing the physical switching of the screen.

»      Sound Engineer/Technician - This area’s responsibility is to create excellent sound for those attending services so that whatever is being communicated can be understood. This includes working with other artists upfront for microphone assignments and checks. Audio levels will need to be monitored and mixed so that every person in every seat can listen without strain.

»      Light Designer/Board Operator - The designer is responsible for the “look” and feeling of the lights. This person will work with the producer to determine the needs for the service or program, then develop a lighting concept and plot. The designer will then work with the board operator to aim and focus the lights in addition setting up cues on the board to be run during the presentation.

»      Computer Presentation Operator - This person runs pre-designed PowerPoint slides during a service to aid the congregation in worship. This includes running pre-service announcements and all other worship elements. Some knowledge of PowerPoint, music and worship elements is essential, but can be easily taught.

»      Video Production - Members of this team use broadcasting and film making techniques to produce original features to be used during a service to illustrate the message for the day or to communicate special events. It incorporates many of the individuals listed above in much the same way as live events, as well as a camera operator and an editor. This is a growing area and will continue to move forward as technology advances.
