Pastor Erik

Rev. Erik R. Schmidt, Administrative Pastor

Pastor Erik has served as Pastor of Community since his ordination and installation on July 17, 2011. On August 1, 2012,  following the retirement of Founding Pastor Dave Gohn, Pastor Erik became just the second sole Pastor in Community's history.

Pastor Erik has a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO, as well as a Master of Theological Studies (M.T.S.) from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, IN, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Religion from Carthage College in Kenosha, WI. He is originally from the Metro Detroit area, having graduated from Lutheran High North in Macomb.

He and his wife Heidi met in college and were married after their graduation in 1997. Together, they have lived in Indiana, Texas, Missouri, and now Michigan. Pastor Erik and Heidi have two living children, Ethan and Katy. Their middle son, Daniel, was a special needs child who returned home to be with the Lord on September 11, 2013, at age six.

Pastor Erik lives for three things: his family, making people laugh, and sharing the hope he has been given through Jesus Christ. Humor is God’s gift, so while he takes very seriously the Truth of the Gospel, Pastor Erik will also have a lot of fun in delivering that Truth. Our Lord Jesus Christ lived as one of us, died for all of us and rose again in promise of new life to those whom God has claimed by grace through faith.  There is no greater proclamation than that, and Pastor Erik is humbled and honored to be called to bring that good news to this incredible church!
